Discover Several Methods to Remove Stains from Your Garage Floor

Once you have a lovely new custom garage door installed, you’ll be motivated to make your garage as lovely as possible – both inside and out. One of the ways you can do this is by cleaning the floor of your garage. Many people believe that there is no way to get stains out, especially those involving oil or grease. The truth is that there are several methods that can help you get rid of stains.

Try the Three-Step Method

First, there is a three-step method that works for many people. You need clay cat litter, dishwashing soap, and a wire brush. Start by getting rid of as much oil as you can by laying the cat litter down. Let it sit overnight to absorb as much of the stain as it can. Then remove the litter and pour liquid dish soap on the stain. Let this sit for about an hour to break up the grease. Then use your wire scrub brush to clean the stain. Wipe in a circular motion and continue to reapply soap and water as needed.

Try a Degreaser

If the three-step method didn’t work, or you don’t want to try it, buy a degreaser. You can buy an eco-friendly option or an industrial degreaser. Eco-friendly options are typically made with citrus, while an industrial degreaser is going to be full of chemicals but more potent and likely to work faster. If you choose an industrial option, you will need to wear eye protection as well as rubber gloves to protect yourself.

Whichever degrease you choose, begin by wiping off any excess oil that easily comes off. Then sweep the area to get rid of any tiny pieces of debris and spread the degreaser with a towel. Let it dry until it has turned into a powdered substance – which can take as long as eight hours. Then remove the powder and wit for it to dry. This can take several days but when it’s done, the stain should be gone.

The Best Defense is a Good Offense

The above methods are good options if you have oil and/or grease stains in your garage, but of course the best way to avoid stains is to prevent them from happening in the first place. You can do this by maintaining your vehicles and having them serviced if they are leaking or dripping. You can also add a sealant and/or topcoat to your garage floor so that it will be less likely to absorb stains. Just make sure you are choosing a coating that is made specifically for garages so that it will not damage your vehicle’s tires.

Now that you know how to keep your garage floor clean, or get rid of stains that happen, you can invest confidently in the best garage doors on the market. You can contact Dynamic Garage Door at 855-343-3667 to learn more.
